First Church Adult Choirs
Here are some details about the adult choirs that sing at First
Church:
Chancel Choir: Thursday evenings at 7:30 in the
music room.
Directed by Mark Mercier
This is the largest and longest-lived singing group of our music
ministry. Called upon for providing choral music for most regular
services, special services, and the presentation of at least one
major work a year, the members of this group also provide many
soloists and small groups throughout the year. The group presents
music of many different styles, from Medieval and Baroque to early
American and Contemporary. (High school age and up)
Occasional Choir: Thursday evenings at 6:30 in the
music room.
Directed by Mark Mercier
This is a fun group. They sing a bit more than once a month, doing
music that is on the lighter side. They have a varied repertoire of
pieces that run stylistically from jazz to contemporary to
classical. (High school age and up)
Women's Praise Choir: Wednesday afternoons at 4:00
in the music room.
Directed by Mark Mercier
This choir is a close harmony, three to five part treble choir,
which not only sings contemporary compositions, but gospel,
contrapuntal and classical music as well. This group also travels
to other area venues to perform as an outreach of First Church.
(High school age and up)
Choral Bells: Thursday evenings at 6:15 in room
29
Directed by Jeannie Boehner
This is a handbell choir, ringing music that is moderate to
difficult. They not only present service music throughout the year,
they also participate in a very enjoyable annual area bell festival
in the spring. (High school age and up)
