Program to include award-winning
Connecticut natives
The Music @ First: Cornerstone Concert Series will present, as
the final part of this year's concert series, a special Homecoming
Jazz Cabaret performance by several outstanding area jazz artists:
Guitarist Doug Maher, pianist Ken Fischer, bassist David Baron, and
drummer Jake Goldbas.
Palmer Hall, the church's great gathering hall, will be decked
out with candles and decorations on each table, and there will be
light fare delivered right to you as you sit with friends and enjoy
some outstanding playing in a fun, informal atmosphere on a warm
spring evening.
This group of exceptional musicians ranges from seasoned experts to
vibrant and exciting up-and coming players, all originally from the
Farmington Valley: longtime educator and performer, guitarist Doug
Maher; respected player, educator, and performer, pianist Ken
Fischer; and two younger players who are already making a mark in
the national jazz arena: Simsbury native drummer Jake Goldbas, and
bassist David Baron, from Simsbury - relocated to West Hartford.
These two award-winning players currently live in New York, and
there they are very much in demand as performers, even while
pursuing an education.
Maher and Fischer are known as two of the areas best jazz
educators, and, having taught both Jake and David during their high
school days, all the players share a past of performing together.
Creative sparks will fly as these musicians reunite for this
concert, bringing not only the experience of having played with
each other - but also new and inventive ideas that they have
gathered as they have traveled nationally and
internationally.
Audience members will be able to experience the music at close
range, and the relaxed atmosphere of friends coming together, all
of whom are brilliant players, should make for an enjoyable,
exciting, inspired, unforgettable evening of amazing jazz.
