Annual Meeting Scheduled for May 18

Annual Meeting Moved to May 18

The Annual Church Meeting will be May 18 this year. There will be one worship service that day at 9:30 a. m. and the meeting will follow the worship service. Our summer worship schedule will commence on May 25 - one worship service at 9:30 a. m. The agenda for the meeting will include a new Endowment Policy, board and committee reports and election of new board and committee members.

All parties involved agreed that it will be good to move the meeting off our normal communion Sunday and to have it one week before the summer worship schedule begins. This is an important meeting in the life of First Church and all members are encouraged to attend.

Coffee Hour Needs You

VOLUNTEER FOR FELLOWSHIP HOUR!

Small Commitment = BIG MINISTRY

MINISTRY??? YOU MIGHT SAY. What does standing around Palmer hall with a cup of coffee and a snack have to do with ministry? Let me shine a light on a few things to help clear up any confusion about the importance of our weekly time in Palmer hall:

We will create opportunities during the preparation of fellowship hour for friendships that may begin in our kitchen and last a lifetime.

We will feed people both physically and spiritually who would otherwise go home to an empty house where fixing a meal seems too lonely—too much work just for one. We provide nutrition, people to visit with, and a place to rest.

We will help families that are exhausted at the end of their week by feeding the kids so moms and dads can take a breath and keep the Sabbath holy.

We will empower folks who want to be a part of 1st Church ministry, but can’t manage the work of a committee, to feel that they’ve made a meaningful contribution to church life.

How do we do this? We’ll have 2-4 families work together each Sunday to share the work and the joy of fellowship. Each week will be a surprise. Those who like to bake will bake. Those who like to buy will buy. Those who don’t like to do either might set up or clean up.

Are you afraid you won’t know how? Just look at the coffee hour procedures shown under the "Ways to Serve" section of this site. It will tell you the what, where, when and how much to bring, entitled:

BE NOT AFRAID TO

FEED MY SHEEP

I’LL BRING THE LOAVES, YOU BRING THE FISHES

COFFEE HOUR INSTRUCTION BOOKLET

Please, call Joie McKennerney 408-0096

Youth Music Program

First Church Youth Music Program

from Mr. Campo ( mr.campo@1stchurchsimsbury.org)

Our young musicians have again given us much through their spirit! On Family Sunday in December, Junior Choir members flexed their musical muscles (and stepped out in faith!) by singing a canon in Latin. Senior Choir shared a joyful Benedicamus Domine and a beautiful rendition of O Holy Night was sung by Kate Campolieta. The Seniors brightened the Christmas Eve Puppet Services with Carols Around and Around and Kate shared a solo of In the Bleak Midwinter.

Congratulations to kindergartners through 6th graders for their presentation of the Christmas musical Tell Me the Story of Christmas on 12/23 – great job! Thank you also to the Junior Choir for their help in presenting the story. There is a special joy youth voices bring!

Grades 3-6 parents, please note: To support the request of grades 3-6 teachers for more classroom time, a new music model will be in place the second half of the year. There will be no 3-6 music, so if your child enjoys it, please encourage him/her to join Junior Choir. New members are always welcome. Junior Choir meets every week from 10:15-10:45 a.m. in the chapel and we’ll be singing and ringing!

Pre- K 2 – Gr. 2 parents, please note: For the second half of the year Cherub Choir will include Pre-K2 through 2nd grade. Cherubs will be escorted to the chapel by shepherds for music from 10:00 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. Cherub Choir does not meet on Family Sundays; pickup is in classroom on Family Sundays..

Important Cherub Choir dismissal information: Except on Family Sundays, at 10:15 a.m., Pre-K2 and kindergarten shepherds will escort children to the classrooms for pickup. Grades 1-2 shepherds will escort students to the parlor for pickup. Since Junior Choir starts immediately at 10:15, we ask that parents of Cherub Choir members not open the chapel doors looking for their children (who won’t be there anyway!)

Cherub Choir Activities: We’ll be experimenting with rhythm instruments, “Boomers,” and other fun activities to learn spirituals, hymns, and songs. Look for the Cherub Choir to bring their new-found skills and boundless energy to a worship service this spring.

Senior Choir time has been changed to 11:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m. Senior Choir is open to all 7-12 graders and meets in the music room. Come sing with us!
