TEEN TUTORING WAS AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!
A very special thank you is in
order to our teen tutors. When all was said and done
more than 20 teens had spent their Tuesday afternoons from
mid-January through June tutoring 2nd
graders at Betances Elementary School in the Charter Oak
District of Hartford. Our teens worked with their
second graders on math and grammar skills, played games
with them such as "Sorry" and "Break the Ice," learned about
their joys, struggles, and family situations, and ended with a
terrific bowling and pizza outing/celebration on June 1st. It
is difficult to put into words how powerful this experience was
because it was about much more than teaching math and grammar,
it was about helping kids and building relationships with those who
are just as smart as us but do not have equal resources or support
systems. Our teens got to know these kids
deeply and will keep this experience with them for the rest of
their lives. We hope to do this again next year.
